Mini Rant

Why do guys hate on the bands that girls like so much?? Seriously. It's like right now, I was listening to some Honor Society in my guy friend's room while we are waiting for the film we made for our filmmaking class to export to quicktime. He's like "Who are these guys? They sound kinda good." I was like "Honor Society." To which he answered, "Never heard of them." Then he sees the CD case sitting next to my laptop and looks it over. Then he states, "Oh. They are produced by the Jonas Brothers. That's why their sound is so generic and boy-bandish."

Why do guys always lump all these bands together under one banner? And why do they hate them so much. I refuse to believe that they just don't like their music. Because I know for a fact that some of my guy friends actually have 'pop' music that has a similar sound to JB and HS sound, but isn't sung by what is commonly known as "boy bands".

I think the real reason that guys don't like them isn't because of their music, unless they are jealous of their musical talent but rather that all the girls would rather fantasize about being with a Jonas Brother than to be with a guy they already know. I think they realize that if we are attracted to guys like that, that we aren't going to be attracted to them.

And it's not to say that my guy friends aren't date worthy or whatever, but I just don't see myself dating any of them. It's not that I'm holding out on the hope that I might someday be with Alexander, Jason, Michael, Andy, Nick, or Joe - Kevin's already off the market - but I'm just not attracted to any of my guy friends in that way.

My guy friend says that the Gent's look "gay". I was going to argue with him, but it's probably pointless, so I'm ranting here.

as a college-aged girl, i completely agree with you. people just assume when they see "jonas group" on the album case.
but to be fair, it's not just guys. girls in my choir claim to dislike JB and then by default HS...i put JB and HS on our preshow playlist...everyone,i mean everyone, asked whose songs they were because they were "soooooo good" and "really catchy" and let's just say they felt stupid after. haha.

  3. Yeah, I kinda' agree with you. For some reason, people become so defensive about music and what they're allowed to publicly like.
I mean, to be honest, my music library is completely diverse - I'll listen to almost anything that doesn't have cursing, isn't heavy metal or major rap - but there are a few songs/albums that I tend to listen to more than others.
They may include The Jonas Brothers and Honor Society, but not because I think the guys are "so hot and I'm totally going to marry them one day!", but because I genuinely like their music. The songs have good beats, the lyrics are great, the voices are sweet, and I can just enjoy it without worrying about who's around to hear it.
My brother does the same stupid thing - if they're tagged "boyband" he automatically doesn't like them and disses them any chance he gets.
It does annoy me that girls go completely gaga over certain artists (yes, I am, was, and always will be a Backstreet Boys fan!), because I don't react that way. I'm a realist, and while I greatly enjoy the music, I don't get swept up in the hype.
And it bothers me that I can't enjoy something for the sake of enjoying it just because the rest of the world is insane about it (enter the Twilight cast...).
Sure I get teased sometimes about some of the music I listen to or the books I choose to read, but that doesn't mean I'm going to turn on any of it.
I don't like the term "fan" because most people associate it with "fanatic", but I am a fan. And I'm proud of that. And people can say what they want, but that doesn't change my opinion of the music. It just changes my opinon of the people making the comments. ;)
    To each his own!

  4. i know exactly what your talking about. i hate when guys say that HS look gay, just because they are jealous that they can't have girls fawning over them, like they do over the gentlemen, but i totally agree 100% with what you're saying

  5. I totally and completely agree with you (:
Of course, I'm a bit biased. I adore the Gents, and I adore the Jo Bros.

But it really is annoying that so many guys diss them without ever even stopping to listen to their music. If they honestly don't like their music, then okay -- I respect their opinion but disagree. Otherwise...it just goes to show how so many boys/guys/men/whatever you want to call them are ignorant and immature.

And, just to restate a point...I adore the Gents and JoBros (:
